There is an old yiddish proverb, popularized by Woody Allen, which says, "If you want to hear God laugh, then tell him your plans." So much of what is now our plans for a team have been floating around in my head over the last 18 years. I have learned and experienced a lot since then that has shaped and guided how we now plan to move forward. One of the key lessons I have learned is to hold the future lightly in my hands. We realize that once we arrive on the field, then the situation could change precisely how our ministry will take shape. So with our team vision, I have sought to express it in broad strokes. These foundational principles, like gospel centrality, help to form the DNA of what we have learned comprises a spiritually healthy and balanced mission, which is firmly rooted in scriptural precepts.
We didn't leave Mexico with the express plans to become team leaders of a new work in Argentina. But over the last two years, while at seminary, those doors opened up and I have always wanted to walk through them! We first began to talk to MTW about potentially working with them in Argentina while we were in Buenos Aires during 2007. I was volunteering with a prison ministry and we were learning a lot about how not to do missions! Much has happened since then. We are grateful to look back on these past 10 years and see how God was orchestrating our path to bring us to where we are now. Our time in Monterrey has been crucial in preparing us for extending to the most southern regions of Latin America the same desire and passion they have for the most northern. So much of what we hope to do in Argentina is an extension of the vision we shared with CPI in Mexico.
As I finish seminary, I can more intentionally start networking, exploring, and investigating what God is already doing in Argentina to understand more comprehensively how we can be a part of it. Also, we can begin to recruit a team to join us. And just as importantly, we can begin to keep you all up-to-date on how this journey will unfold!
